Barcelona: Barcelona's three-time Ballon d'Or-winner Lionel Messi scored the 50th Champions League goal of his career on Tuesday in his side's quarterfinal second-leg clash with AC Milan.
The Argentinian became, at the age of 24, the youngest player to reach the landmark when he converted a penalty in the 11th minute of the game to put Barca 1-0 ahead on aggregate.
Messi also broke the record for the highest number of goals scored in a single Champions League campaign, as the goal took his tally for this season to 13.
He had previously shared the record with Dutchman Ruud van Nistelrooy, who scored 12 for Manchester United in the 2002-03 season.
Messi has finished as top scorer in the Champions League for the past three seasons and also hit 12 goals in last season's competition.
